This rocket was finished in time for NARAM-44
in the summer of 2002. It flew that weekend and has only had one or two other flights since.
The yellow base coat was picked to give it improved visibility over
the original white. I mistakenly painted the nosecone blue, but later,
upon seeing the catalog pic, realized it should be black and repainted it
accordingly.
I added gap staging vents to the booster and left out the motor block
so that Estes E-motors can be used in the sustainer. The staging vent is visible near the forward end of the booster.
I originally used silver paint on the payload bay, and it came out...er..well,
not silver but gray. So I ended up applying chrome trimkote over it, and that looks much better.
I purchased some Tango Papa
decals for the fins but ended up using trimkote for those, too.
I have a video camera I am preparing to use for
rocketry, and may use the Omega to boost it. It won't look like a
Cineroc, but it will be a tribute of sorts.
