My son chose the Quest Gamma Ray as a
rocket to call his
own. The goal was for him to do most of the work. As it
turned
out, he did some work but Dad still probably did too much

The rocket turned out pretty nice. The shoulder on
the transition to the payload bay was too short, only about 1/4"
long. So
we first tried
lengthening it by adding about 1" of tube to it. Then we decided
to just make a new transition on the lathe. That's
the one in the pic at left.
Unsure whether we liked the red plastic payload bay,
we cooked up
an alternate opaque one. I think I like that better. It hides the
shoulders of the nosecone and transition.
