Baby Midget
Downscale (BT-20) of the K-40 Midget

Continuing the theme of building different scales of Midgets, the goal here was to make a downscale of the K-40.  While the Mini-Brute Midget (Estes 0840) uses BT-20 as the main airframe tube, it's not a scale of the original K-40, but an adaptation.

This BT-20 bird is a downscale of the BT-50 based K-40 retaining most of its proportions.

However, some accomodations had to be made.  In this case, the already shortened T-motors are still too long, and must be cut down to 1.25" in length (from 1.75") in order to fit.  Even then, the booster is a bit longer than scale as is most apparent in the elongated chord of the booster fins.

It flies best on a combination of ½A3-0T to ¼A3-3T.  The latter motors are still available, but the ½A3-0T boosters are scarce as hens' teeth.

As a result, if a full A booster is used, it's best to have lots of eyes and a calm air.

In this picture, the scale nature of the Baby Midget shows well against the K-40 on the right.  The 0840 on the left is seemingly skinny compared to the others.

Here's a so-so pic of the Baby Midget just commencing ignition.
