Avenger-SRS
Several years ago, I set out to build a modular high power rocket so that I could share pieces between two (or more) rockets thereby reducing the time spent sanding and painting payload sections, transitions, etc.

Other goals were to get my Level 2 certification with one of these and to have a rocket suitable for use with the Sky Ripper 38mm hybrid J motors.

I came up with this Avenger upscale (left) for the hybrid and the Saturn-1B-inspired rocket (right) for my L2.  The forward, silver payload section houses the electronics while the striped, center section holds the recovery system.

To convert from one to the other, all that needs to be swapped are the nosecones and fin cans.

I did indeed attain the L2, back in the summer of 2006 at LDRS in Wayside, Texas near Amarillo.  That's it at right loaded on the pad.

The booster section of the Avenger-SRS is fake.  The separation line is simply some silver trim tape.

The Avenger-SRS has yet to fly.  It seems like there have been a littany of obstacles the past few years, foremost of which is the loss of high power fields in North Texas, but I'm still hoping to get it in the air sometime in the next year.
